Ways to Help
Thank you to the many volunteers who have already been working hard to support families coming to Canada. We are so grateful for your generosity of time, talent and funds!
Hosting
If you are in a position to host, we would welcome your help with open arms. We expect more families will be coming as Canada eases immigration measures for Ukrainians. Hosts create space in their home, or offer apartments or homes for free, to help families get settled and find support.
There is no specific financial requirement, however most hosts have made a generous financial commitment. Agreements between around length of stay, numbers of visitors and other details are negotiated through conversations over video chat, and assisted by Ukraine Help Middlesex family ambassadors. Assistance and donations of goods or services to welcome and support the family once they arrive are provided by other group members.

Other Ways to Help
There are many ways to help beyond hosting including some of the following:
- Facetime chats – walking families through forms, steps to apply for visa, guiding them to IRCC resources, answering questions about community & life in Canada
- Tech support for video calls/signing of forms, etc. – helps hosts who are not familiar with technology work with visitors remotely
- Helping to set up and prepare rooms/apartments. etc.
- Welcome packages – getting sponsors/donations, preparing and packing
- Donating funds for flights
- Donating gift cards for groceries and other essentials
- Transportation – from airport, to appointments, etc upon arrival
- Take families shopping for goods/essentials
- Help families find community resources and services
- Donate clothing, furniture, essentials (once families start arriving)
- Coordinate pick up and delivery of physical goods donated
- Help connect families to jobs/job search resources
- Communication – interpretation/translation
- Offer free services if you are a professional or own a business (ie. lawyer, dentist, veterinarian, insurance broker, cleaner, therapist, etc.)

Have a great idea that’s not on the list?
We’re open to any and all suggestions to help our families settle in and thrive. Please contact Richard here, or post in the facebook group.
Can I donate money?
We are open to donations of gift cards and flights (working directly with hosts), or you may be willing to connect with an individual host to make arrangements to support a family directly.
